As a year, this was one of the most significant 12 months we’ve dealt with—and even as witnessed some heartening trends, the podcast industry was not immune from the effects of the pandemic.
Our second annual State of the Industry Report reveals data on regional podcast consumption based on our listener survey, and key industry insights around podcast creation, monetisation and consolidation.
Key Findings
Our 2020 Report combines insights from our listener survey, which ran during December 2020-January 2021.
Some of the key findings for the year include:
55% said they listened to more podcasts since March 2020 with a preference for shows relating to entertainment, followed by self-help & improvement.
The industry witnessed increased consolidation and siloing of content during 2020, while podcast discovery and standardization continue to be a challenge.
There’s a strong acceptance for branded podcasts, with 92% of respondents say they would listen. Two-thirds of podcast listeners also stated that they are open to listening to advertising on shows.
